Abstract

Scientific literacy is an essential competency that should be developed from the elementary school level; however, numerous studies indicate that Indonesian students’ scientific literacy remains relatively low. Therefore, innovative learning media that integrate visual, narrative, and digital technology elements are needed. This study aims to synthesize research findings on flashcards, storytelling, fairy tales, and scientific literacy, as well as to identify opportunities for developing Fairy Tale-Based Literacy Interactive Flashcards (Litraflash) in elementary science education. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA guidelines. Data were collected from Google Scholar, ERIC, DOAJ, and national and international journals published between 2020 and 2026. Of the 56 articles initially identified, 27 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that flashcards have evolved into interactive digital media, storytelling and fairy tales contribute to student engagement, and visual-interactive learning media have the potential to support scientific literacy development. The review also indicates that integrating visual media, contextual narratives, and interactive technology through Litraflash offers a promising innovation for elementary science learning. However, its effectiveness still requires further empirical investigation, so further research on this topic is crucial to pursue, as it makes a tangible contribution to the relevant fields of study.
